Dress, rose print satin bodice with red chiffon overlay and velvet trim, Paul Poiret-inspired lampshade skirt style. (c. 1912) 

In 1908, French designer Paul Poiret introduced a radical new silhouette. He was inspired by the neoclassical style of 100 years earlier: a white muslin dress with a high waist and slim skirt. He claimed that "women could now abandon their corset" for a more natural silhouette.
