Reception gown, taupe silk moiré (c. 1892 - 1894) #292

#292

Reception gown, taupe silk moiré with matching wool sleeves and train. Silk fringe and ball trim at neckline. This Parisian gown displays the French talent for combining unusual fabrics and colors, in this case the pairing of silk moiré with wool sleeves and a silk fringe. Its enormous sleeves and smoothly fitted hips, a stark departure from the bustle, are typical of the early 1890s style. Elaborate trains remained a popular fashion element. (c. 1892 - 1894)
